Pupils will explore the story of Theseus and the Minotaur, gaining some knowledge of the beliefs of people in ancient Greece, they will have gained greater understanding of the terms real and pretend and the differences between them. Pupils will  gain a greater understanding of the difference between truth and lies. Pupils will have read and created simple maps including maps with a key. Pupils will have continued to develop their fine motor skills through craft activities related to the story of Theseus and the Minotaur and the theme Fantasy World.

Pupils will have a greater understanding of the difference between light and dark by identifying and exploring different light sources. Pupils will have a greater understanding of the difference between quiet and loud by exploring a variety of sounds from the environment. Pupils will have a greater understanding of the importance of light and sound in religion and learn about the relevance of it at Diwali, Eid, Hanukkah, Bonfire Night, Halloween and Christmas.

Pupils will be able to identify where they live and who they live with. Pupils will understand that they have a ‘local area’ which consists of different buildings which have a different purpose; with a particular focus on religious buildings and what they represent. We will discuss the most appropriate ways to travel around town and be introduced to how to be safe on the road. The theme will have a branch of understanding ‘my local area’ as where my school is and the people in my school that can help me as well as people outside of school that can help me, touching briefly on the emergency services. 

Pupils will be able to identify what is an immediate emergency and where to go and what to do for help. We will discuss the relevance of calling 999 and the rules of being sensible if needing to call 999. We will discuss and explore who the emergency services are, what they do, what they look like and how they help us

Pupils will be able to understand where their home is and who lives in their home. Each room in the house will be discussed and explored and will expand on what happens in each room and why and how to be safe around the home. There will be an extended focus on cleanliness and hygiene.  

Pupils will be able to talk about the weather warming up and how to keep hydrated safe during this time. Pupils will understand that there will be no school in the holidays and the routines for home will be different. We will learn about days out and how to prepare for these leading onto ‘camping’, ‘seaside’ and ‘picnic in the park project’ where pupils will focus on planning and preparing for these days out and having a trip at the end of it.

Finding Information on the Internet

This scheme of work aims to teach and recap the computer parts and their uses. It also aims to teach the basic functions of Word. The pupils will be able to type words and sentences, change the text and insert shapes and pictures. The pupils will learn to share their interests, likes and dislikes before they type or insert pictures on Word.

This scheme of work aims to teach the pupils directional language, control and basic programming. The pupils will be able to turn on/off an electronic toy and control it following given directions. Some pupils will also be able to provide directions to others.

This scheme of work aims to teach and recap what personal information is, who is safe or unsafe to share this information with and the dangers of sharing this information with strangers. It also aims to teach the meaning of cyberbullying and online grooming. In the end, some pupils will be able to express their concerns to an adult if something does not seem right. 

This scheme of work aims to teach how to search for information on the Internet, how to use Google maps and how to access online shopping websites.

Pupils will further explore the five senses (touch, taste, sight, smell and hearing). Pupils will learn about how our senses work and conduct experiments with restrictions and evidence.

Pupils will further develop their knowledge about forces, friction and magnetic attraction. Pupils will continue to develop their ability to work scientifically and collaboratively to investigate.

Pupils will further explore and expand knowledge of the main features of the human body and how they work. This will extend to cover aspects of RSE.

By the end pupils will gain a deeper awareness of space and space travel. Pupils will work on skills such as comparing, comparing and observing.

Performance

Music based unit, pupils will be able to recall the terms beat and melody, and begin to know the term rhythm. Pupils will begin to use ICT to create background scenes in response to music. Pupils will be able to create their own short sequences of movements in response to musical stimuli.  

Performance based unit. Pupils will have worked as a group to choreograph a class dance, learned the dance, prepared to perform their scene and taken part in either an in person or  virtual performance. Pupils will also have designed their character including any costume and make up. Pupils will have considered what props and scenery they might need and will have taken part in producing these. 

Music and movement based unit, pupils will identify likes and dislikes through the exploration of different types of music created by artists from the local area. Students will react to musical stimuli and create sequences of movements to share with their classmates. Students will identify the beat and melody in pieces of music.  

Music based unit, students will work as a team to create a song and accompanying dance looking at the school rules. Students will put into practice prior learning on beat, melody and movement planning, promoting teamwork skills, creative thinking and beginning to gain some understanding of non-verbal communication. To review the school rules, supporting students with understanding what the rules mean and applying this to our actions.

A performance based unit, pupils will plan, rehearse and perform a music and dance based show for either the members of the school community or parents, based on a topic of their choosing and working collaboratively across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. Through teamwork pupils will choreograph class dances, they will consider either the use of musical instruments or signing to enhance their performance as appropriate. Pupils will reflect on their performances and give feedback on what went well and what they could change in the future.

Pupils will explore food through taste, texture, smell, and sight. Pupils will be encouraged to try new foods and expand what foods they are familiar with. Pupils will learn about how ingredients make up our favourite foods and learn some simple processes of how food is made and manufactured.

Pupils will learn about how different fruits and vegetables grow. They will have opportunities to explore fruits and vegetables through sight, smell and taste. Pupils will learn the importance of washing foods before preparing and eating. Pupils will learn how to prepare a variety of fruits and vegetables for eating.

Pupils will learn the importance of handwashing prior to starting any handling of food. Pupils will explore and learn about how to keep safe when cooking in the kitchen. This will include learning  about common dangers in the kitchen and how to keep safe. Pupils will learn a variety of basic cooking/preparation skills in the kitchen and how to carry these out saely.  Pupils will learn what to do if there is an accident in the kitchen .

Pupils will learn the names and the functions and uses of various pieces of kitchen equipment  Pupils will learn how to use them safely to prepare foods.  Pupils will learn how to use different  pieces of equipment and utensils for different needs and purposes.

Pupils will explore what measuring is and how to measure and weigh in different  ways. Pupils will develop their accuracy of measuring and increase  their ability to read scales. This is to develop the pupils' ability to follow recipes. 

Pupils will learn what happens when food goes off. They will learn how food needs preservation to ensure it can be eaten later or kept for future use. Pupils will learn how to keep food safe for eating and when food needs discarding.  Pupils will learn about food hygiene and safety.

Pupils will be able to understand why it is important to be clean and how to take care of their bodies including exercising and being healthy. Pupils will have a chance to practise their kitchen cooking skills and will learn about charity and religion and how they support their mental health.

Pupils will have gained understanding of the term country and awareness of the term continent; they will have explored the climate for at least one country in each continent, gaining experience of understanding weather forecasts and recording the weather. Students will have gained experience using a world map, map of Europe and map of the UK to identify where they live. Students will have experienced languages spoken in different countries and continents. Pupils will have researched the different plants and wildlife found in at least one country for each continent. Pupils will have looked into the six main world  religions 

Pupils will be able to think of their own targets and review these themselves.  Pupils will research and explore space. Using language to identify features and materials of planets. Pupils will be introduced to Neil Armstrong and understand what an astronaut and rocket is. 

Pupils will be able to identify the members of the current royal family and past kings and queens. They will be able to understand and compare various castles and palaces and identify the features of these. Pupils will work on projects where they will write their own fictional story based around castles and palaces and create those using junk modelling. 

Pupils will be able to identify what good friends are and how to interact with them successfully including turn taking. They will understand what good manners  are and how to maintain healthy friendships. They will also show an understanding of stranger danger and how to be safe online. In the end, they will  be able to identify who to turn to if they are in need of support. 

Pupils will know places they can travel to, different modes of transport and how to get there. Pupils will be able to recognise old and new methods of transport and realise that a mode of transport can be used for a variety of different reasons.  They will also learn how different modes of transport work. They will have opportunities to search for information online and present that in front of their peers.

This scheme of work aims to teach the changes in technology through time, the concepts of past and present, the differences between devices in the past and present and their uses. In the end, some pupils will be able to imagine what future devices may look like.

This scheme of work aims to teach basic programming. The pupils will be able to create simple algorithms following given directions. They will be able to choose and modify their sprite and backdrop, add movements, sounds, speech bubbles and shapes. In the end, some pupils will be able to create their own program without adult support.

By the end of this topic pupils will deepen their understanding of light, sources of light, sound and how our ears and eyes function.  Pupils will extend their skills of identifying and classifying.

By the end of this topic pupils will have explored a variety of materials for bendiness, squishiness, twistability and stretchiness. Pupils will use more scientific vocabulary.  Pupils will make predictions, conduct experiments and record results.  Pupils will revisit solids, liquids and gases and what these look like in daily life.  Pupils will explore processes which are reversible such as melting, boiling, condensing, freezing and evaporating.

By the end pupils will be aware that electricity can produce light, heat, sound, movement. Pupils will use circuits to explore the components to light the bulb/make the buzzer sound. Pupils will be developing their questioning  and discussion skills.

By the end pupils will have encountered a range of life cycles and develop their skills in sequencing and recording. Pupils will explore growth in animals, plants and themselves. This will link to RSE.   

By the end of the topic pupils will have recapped and further developed their skills in identifying, observing and describing plants. Pupils will explore how plants function and conduct experiments to support this.

The activities suggested vary in difficulty and teachers will select the appropriate ones for their group and differentiate accordingly. Learning within PE utilises spiral learning, so key concepts and skills are retaught each time to counter regression and then to increase difficulty.

Exploring Food

Fruit and Vegetables

Following Instructions

Eatwell Plate

Pupils will explore food through taste, texture, smell, and sight. Pupils will be encouraged to try new foods and expand what foods they are familiar with. Pupils will learn about how ingredients make up our favourite foods and learn some simple processes of how food is made and manufactured.

Pupils will learn where we get fruits and vegetables from. Pupils will learn about which part of the plant we eat and why they are important for our diet.  Pupils will learn where in the world different fruits and vegetables grow and pupils will learn how they can be prepared for us to eat.

Pupils will learn the importance of being able to follow instructions to be safe in a kitchen and when cooking. Pupils will learn how to follow simple instructions to make simple recipes and also the impact of what can happen when instructions are not followed.  Pupils will be taught where to find cooking instructions on packets of food and how to understand what they mean. Pupils will also learn about the food traffic light system and them be supported to help them make healthier food choices.

Pupils will learn about the importance of keeping themselves healthy - from hygiene and exercise to food and water.  Pupils will learn about the different food groups and why each is important for humans.  Pupils will explore the Eatwell Plate and make healthy meals.
