Key Stage 3
Key Stage 3
Pupils in KS3 are taught by specialised Pathway 1 teachers in a class based model. This means that pupils are taught by their form tutor for the majority of the school day. Pupils have access to subject specific lessons including English, Maths, Science, ICT, Art and Performing Arts. Other subjects are taught through Theme Learning in a cross curricular holistic style (PSHCE, Technology, RE, History, Geography). Pupils also have a Community Access lesson, where they learn skills needed to be safe, such as crossing roads and social skills.
Developing pupils' speech and language and communication is a key area. Teachers within Pathway 1 have had tailored training to support pupils in developing their speech and language. The teachers in Pathway 1 also work closely with the therapy team ensuring that the sensory, physical and emotional needs are met. We use Signalong, Colourful Semantics and symbols to support language development.
The whole Pathway 1 curriculum is focused on a spiral model, where skills are revisited and built upon. Each pupil works at the level suitable for them whilst always being encouraged to push themselves to experience and develop themselves.
Each student will have their various curricular achievements collected and recorded within their Individual Profile. This builds up an overview of the pupils' achievements at Meadow which they then take with them when they move on from us.
