Key Stage 3 and 4

Northwood Road  Key Stage 3

In Key Stage 3 we aspire to equip our young people with the knowledge and skills needed for them to live a fulfilled and as independent life as possible.  We support pupils through adolescence and prepare them for early adulthood. The focus lies in building knowledge and skills in line with the pupils' attainment through following the National Curriculum, which is differentiated to focus on functional skills as well as building the foundational knowledge required to become active citizens in the community.

We support young people so that they can develop meaningful self-help and independent skills, self-advocacy and communication.  We develop our young people as individuals who identify as part of the community and become aware of their roles and responsibilities.  We develop young people who can take risks, try new experiences and tolerate undesirable experiences in a safe environment. We support the pupils through co-regulation and develop their ability to understand how to be aware of and support their own needs.

Northwood Road  Key Stage 4

In Key Stage 4 we continue to develop our young people's knowledge and skills to further allow them to prepare for adulthood.  This includes access to the National Curriculum in a differentiated manner, focusing on functional skills, social experiences and accreditation where suitable. Pupils begin to become more self-aware and take responsibility for themselves and others, including increasing their ability to regulate their own behaviour. Pupils' self-help and independent skills are further developed and pupils have opportunities to access new hobbies and experiences.  Pupils learn to advocate for themselves and are supported to problem solve.
