Task 1: Foods Around the World - Spicy Foods

Learning Objective:

To research and explore the different types of spicy food in different countries 

Key Information:

This activity will get children thinking about and discussing the different foods they've tried and which ones they've not. Are there any meals they would like to try? Why not see if you can find a recipe and cook it for them? After they've tried this new food, they could add it to their worksheet.

There's also a separate blank grid so that children can research some different food that they're interested in it. Use this worksheet to prompt independent research which is a great skill for children to develop.

Aims:  These tasks are designed to be done with your child. Purple coloured tasks are aimed at pupils who would enjoy more of a challenge .  These are tasks where pupils should be working with greater independence, however  please take time to support pupils in starting the tasks and build communication skills.

Note to Parents:       

The work set promotes  the development of higher challenge Spoken Language, Reading and Writing skills. To make things easier, the powerpoint contains the texts and tasks sheets needed and is sequenced to support students to build skills.  

 

Form Tutors will be leading the line of learning via online lessons.  This work will include adding revision opportunities if needed and extending the work to support understanding and engagement. 

Please note:  The work is designed to support students building skills towards their next step exam.

Students taking their exam this year should use this work as extension tasks; they will be completing exam specific learning online with the Faculty Leader.

Task 1: Galileo Galilei

Learning Objective:

To be able to have an understanding of how Galileo Galilei scientific observations and inventions changed the way people thought about the world.

Key Information: 

This is a science based comprehension task were students can read and answer questions about Galileo Galilei.

Task 1: Climate Change - Global Warming  

Learning Objective:

To learn about climate change and the effects it has on our planet 

Key Information:

Students can explore the impact of climate change on our ecosystems using our informative PowerPoint and worksheets for a thought-provoking and interactive lesson. Students can also visit the bbc bitesize to learn more about climate change.

Session 1

Task 1: Research/Plan/Make/Evaluate - Foods Around the World 

Learning Objective:

To make a chosen recipe from a selected country 

Key Information:

Look at the suggested links or recipes books you may have at home of dishes around the world. 

To help you think of some of the different places you could research:

What type of food would you find in Italy? Mexico? India? Greece?

Once you have decided on a country, research the dish. Have a look at home if you have some of the ingredients already and buy what you need to make it. Remember to look through the recipe and consider the time it takes to make, the support you might need and the equipment you may require. Have fun and send us in a photo of what you have made if you can. 

Session 1

  1. Introduce the topic - what types of foods you may find in certain counties 

  2. Research - Have a look on the suggested website or look at cookbooks you may have at home of foods around the world

  3. Plan - Once chosen your recipe write down the ingredients/equipment and method on the ‘Writing instructions’ worksheet

Session 2

  1. Make - Student can buy the ingredients required and make the recipe with an adult at home

  2. Evaluate - Complete the ‘taste test’ worksheet to evaluate how you dish went 

Extension Task:

Try making more than one recipe and compare. You could also do a tasted evaluation on what you have made. (Worksheet attached)

Key Information:

Using the internet can you research facts about the different countries around the world. There are three differentiated worksheets that you can select from to suit your child and they can input the key information as they research it.

Session 1

  1. Talk about the different foods around the world

  1. Present your findings in your tutor sessions with the rest of you class

Climbing World Famous Landmarks

How many famous landmarks can you climb right from your home? The powerpoint provided has 7 famous landmarks from around the world.

You have been given the height of each landmark and the number of steps required to climb.

Task1

How many famous Landmarks can you climb in total? Once you have completed a landmark please put a tick in the table provided (last slide of powerpoint).

With COVID-19 lockdowns now in place across most of the world, many countries are spreading inspiring messages of hope, from lit up landmarks to singing police. Activity:
