Dear Families
We have had a lovely end to this half term by coming together to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Our red, white and blue street party was great fun, and it was wonderful to see pupils and staff coming together to mark this historic point in time. We planted a tree to commemorate the Jubilee in our Woodland area which is being developed to be used as a 'Forest School' from September this year.
Here is a lovely photo from 10 years ago with our then Head Pupils who planted a tree in Uxbridge for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
We will post photos of our current Head pupils planting the Platinum Jubilee tree on our website.
Assembly
This week I was delighted to hand over the reins of the whole school assembly to pupils from 11BA. Azhaar and Alana-May talked to pupils about Autism. Not only were the girls extremely well prepared, they talked confidently and clearly and really engaged their peers with their excellent presentation.
Thank you ladies!
Pathway 1 Residential
This week we have had our first ever residential dedicated to Pathway 1 pupils. This took place at Centre Parcs Woburn and the 4 lodges of pupils and staff have had an amazing week.
I was privileged to join the fun on Wednesday. I loved taking part with my group in the morning activity of field archery (if they tell you I was a bad shot they are exaggerating, I was a terrible shot!). After lunch, we went swimming as a whole group which was wonderful, although I am clearly a wuss when it comes to flumes and tunnels unlike many of our pupils who went down multiple times! I even had the pleasure of cooking dinner for one of the lodges (and I believe there were no ill effects!).
Most of all, I was so proud to see how well our pupils, your children, interacted with each other socially, used their life skills, challenged themselves with unfamiliar activities and for many pupils, how they coped with being away from family for the first time.
If you don't already follow us on Twitter but would like to see some photos and videos from the residential you can find us @MeadowHighSch
Jack Petchy winners
Congratulations to all this year's Jack Petchy Award Winners who attended the official award ceremony at the Beck Theatre. The winners were each nominated by pupils and staff where it was felt they had gone above and beyond in some way. Each winner has been able to select how £200 pounds can be spent on items that pupils suggest. This has included magazine subscriptions for the library, new breaktime games, a pool table, a chocolate fountain for Prom etc.
Thank you for being such great ambassadors for the school!
Schools additional bank holiday
As you may know, the Queen has given the country an additional bank holiday. As this falls in the half term week, schools were invited to allocate this additional day which we did on Monday 6th June. Therefore, we look forward to seeing pupils back at school on Tuesday 7th June.
May I wish you all a safe, happy and fun half term.
