Dear Families
It has been such a joyous week here with all pupils taking part in a fantastic range of sporting activities. Congratulations to everyone for taking part, doing your very best and being supportive to your fellow pupils. If you follow us on Twitter you will have seen some photos and videos of the week. You can also view these via our website https://www.meadowhighschool.org/ by clicking on the Twitter button near the top on the right (or here below).
Our Year 14 leavers enjoyed a day out at the seaside yesterday. With perfect weather and good friends they had great fun playing on the beach and exploring the pier. Today we said our fond farewells to these pupils at a Leavers' Assembly. This can be a tough time for everyone from pupils, to families and staff. After up to 8 years being part of the Meadow Community even exciting onward transition can look daunting. But, never fear!! We are starting a Meadow Alumni group (I'm sure they will come up with a better name for it once they get together!). This group will be invited to alumni events at the school and once a committee is set up we expect they will start to organise and run a whole series of social events (with our support). We will also run a bi-annual newsletter just for Alumni so that stories, successes, events and things of interest can be shared.
May I take this opportunity to say what a privilege it has been to be part of the education and life journey of these pupils. I am so proud to see the young adults they have become today and I look forward to hearing about their future success, achievements and happiness.

Well done to Pathway 1 class MP 100%!!!!!!!
Polite reminder
All pupils are expected to have at least 97% attendance.
Exceptions are given for illness supported with medical evidence and medical appointments that are unable to be taken out of school time.
Dental and routine GP appointments are expected to be taken during school holidays.
The latest Government legislation has ruled that parents/carers should no longer plan holidays that involves taking their children out school during term-time. The following statistics highlight the importance of students attending school whenever possible, in order to achieve their full potential!!

Prom 2022
Deadline for tickets: Wednesday 6th July 2022
Prom night, Thursday 14th July, is fast approaching. We hope to see as many students there as possible to celebrate with their friends! This is an especially important night for our students (and staff!) after such a challenging two years, and we can't wait!
Please be aware that the deadline for completing permission slips to get a ticket is Wednesday 6th July 2022. This is so we can ensure we have enough of everything needed to make the evening special for our students.
Prom Menu:
Mrs Fabische and her super team of superstars have devised a truly delicious three-course menu for our students to enjoy. Food orders will be placed in advance so that students know what they will be looking forward to, and we can plan for any special dietary requirements. Form Teams will be talking to the students in their group and helping them to choose the right option for them. Please see the menu below - sorry this food is for students only, I know, we wanted some too!

Parking on the night: - Our VIPs Arrive!
There will be a drive-through system on the night as well as some parking spaces made available for parents who want to take photos with the MHS paparazzi. Students will be greeted by our Master of Ceremonies and a Stop sign will indicate where to pause to let them get out of the car and have their 'red carpet' moment.

Any questions please contact us through your child's Form Tutor.

Class YA Trip
Class YA took the U4 bus to Uxbridge this week. They had a walk around town and found some important places. They found the Library, underground station, post office and a bakery. They had a small snack in McDonalds and then caught the U4 back to school. They enjoyed tapping on and off the bus and choosing where to sit.

Family Support
We are all feeling the pinch at the moment. With the cost of living rising it has
become more difficult for us all.
In the local community, there are places that can support families to access food at a reasonable cost as well as food banks for families that are really struggling.
Below are a few links that can help families facing financial hardship

Breakfast
Research has shown that parents find breakfast time one of the most stressful times of the day, this can contribute to family pressures. Families rushing to get to work, getting everyone dressed, fed and out of the house on time can be a real challenge.
- 20-30% of school children skip breakfast on a regular basis.
- 81% of teachers agree that hungry children are unable to concentrate.
- Eating breakfast is linked to doing better at school.
- 20% of parents of primary aged children find breakfast the trickiest time of the day.
- Eating a healthy breakfast can lead to improved mental health and mood in teenagers.
- Breakfast provides lots of important vitamins and minerals.
The link below provides top tips and hints for families to help elevate some of the
family pressures:

Message from Public Health England
COVID
As we learn to live safely with coronavirus (COVID-19), there are actions we can all
take to help reduce the risk of catching COVID-19 and passing it on to others.
These actions will also help to reduce the spread of other respiratory infections, such as flu, which can spread easily and may cause serious illness in some people.
There are simple things you can do in your daily life that will help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory infections and protect those at highest risk.
Things you can choose to do are:
1. Get vaccinated.
2. Let fresh air in if meeting others indoors.
3. Practise good hygiene:
- wash your hands
- cover your coughs and sneezes
- clean your surroundings frequently
VACCINATIONS
Thursday, 23 June 2022 Publications from Public Health
Vaccinations provide protection against serious illnesses. Recent news reported the virus which causes polio has been detected in London and there have been
confirmed cases of measles in a neighbouring borough. It is important to make sure your child is up to date with their vaccinations.
Check your child's red book or contact your GP if you don't think your child has had all their vaccinations. You can find out more about which vaccines are given to children here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/nhs-vaccinations-and-when-to-have-them/

Be Cautious Using Free WI-FI
Dear Watch Member,
Public or free W-Fi isn't secure. Someone could be monitoring everything you do.
If a Wi-Fi network is free or available to the public, then anyone can be on it and watch the traffic sent between your device and the internet. This means they could steal passwords, emails or even banking details. Also,be careful using apps that automatically login without you having to enter your password.
Be wary using free Wi-Fi for anything you don't want a stranger to see, and consider keeping Wi-Fi turned off unless you need it, or use a Virtual Private Network. - a service that helps you stay private online.
