Dear Families,
I hope this finds you all well.
You may have noticed that we are having a lot more coffee mornings this year. This is in an effort to support families with more information and to give opportunities for families to come together as a community. It was wonderful to see such a big turn out to our 'Onward Transition' event this week. Families of pupils who are considering their child's next step after Meadow. I hope you found the morning useful. We have lots more events planned and if you have a suggestion for a particular event please contact kbently@meadowhighschool.org These events might be for information or a for particular group to get together for instance the families of pupils with a particular diagnosis or condition, families from the same language community, dads, mums etc! We look forward to hearing your suggestions and seeing you here for events.
This week has seen the launch of our Rights Respecting School initiative.
We are using this award to transform the work we do with our pupils. Through this work pupils and adults come together as a community to learn about children’s rights and how to put them into practice every day. In Rights Respecting Schools children’s rights are promoted and realised and adults and children work towards this goal together.
We don't expect this to be a quick journey for us, but we believe this will develop and enhance the work we already do to educate and support your children to be safe and to be the best members of society they can be.
There are four key areas of impact for children at a Rights Respecting school; wellbeing, participation, relationships and self-esteem.
The difference that a Rights Respecting School makes goes far beyond the school gates, making a positive impact on the whole community.
- Children are healthier and happier
- Children feel safe
- Children have better relationships
- Children become active and involved in school life and the wider world
Look out for more information in the bulletin each week about the different rights and for a Rights Respecting coffee morning for families.
Very best wishes for a lovely weekend.
Mrs J Rigby
Headteacher

Friends of Meadow
Christmas Shop
The Friends of Meadow Christmas Shop offers pupils the chance to independently buy wrapped Christmas presents for friends, family, carers and (by popular request) pets. We'll be sending out order forms soon.
Our pupils help select the items to be sold and also to run the shop, we generally go for low cost items and don't make a profit. We're aiming for our pupils being able to choose, buy and give presents using their own initiative as much as possible.
Parents and carers won't be missing out though, we'll be calling on you to help with the wrapping in a few weeks, once we have orders in!
The shop runs like this, on an "order and collect" basis:
- please return completed order forms, by Monday 21 November, in school bags, for the attention of the school office, no money is needed yet
- the shop will run on Tuesday 6 December, in school, where pupils pay for and collect their items.
We hope the shop is fun and gives our pupils a chance to independently pick up some Christmas gifts.
Thanks for your orders and standby for the call for expert present wrappers!

Secretary, Friends of Meadow

South London Special League (SLSL)
On the 9th of November, the U16 footballers represented our school on Long Lane football field. After a long bus ride, students were very excited to play their games. They played against 4 other teams and finished 3rd place slipping off by just 1 point from the 2nd! This was a great tournament and a fantastic opportunity to showcase how they can work as an all-inclusive team. And, finally, a special shout out for the whole team supporting our wheelchair user all through this trip.

(charity supporting local families)
Well it’s nearly “the most wonderful time of the year” and again we are calling on our lovely community. So many of you have helped us for the last few years but we know this year will be very different for many of us, and we understand this, but we still have loads of families needing help, actually even more so this year. So with this in mind if you are able to put maybe one extra item a week in your basket that will be such a big help.
Below you will see a list of the items we include in our boxes, if you can help with donating anything we would be very grateful. Remember your gifts help many families that otherwise would struggle during this holiday time.
PRESENT LIST
This year again we will be asking for specific items for our gift boxes. We decided this as it will reduce unusable gifts ( wrong ages, likes, ability) and help us to spread the boxes further.
Here are the items we would like to collect.

- Tins of chocolates ( Quality Street, Heroes, Celebrations, Roses)
- Sweets ( Haribo Type)

The vouchers and any Cash donated will be used to buy items we need to complete boxes prior to delivery. I’m sorry, but we ask for only these three stores vouchers, so we can do a big shop rather than visit lots of different stores.
