Dear Families
We received the results of our Flair survey this week. If you remember, this is how we are gathering data to help us inform our anti racism work. Please look out for virtual opportunities to see the results and hear about how we intend to address areas for development and build on our strengths.
Mamma Mia, here we go again! Our second group of school council members had a fantastic trip to see Mamma Mia in the West End this week thanks to the generosity of Go Live Theatre and the Jack Petchey Foundation. Photos on Twitter show the pupils and staff having a great time and enjoying an interval ice cream!
We were delighted to welcome Ed from Wize Up Me to work with our Sixth Form pupils this week. The charity runs workshops to educate young people about all financial matters from budgeting and credit cards to apprenticeships and pensions and everything financial in-between. Understanding and being able to thoughtfully use money is one of the key skills we work to develop with pupils during their time at Meadow.
As you know, there is a second strike day planned for Thursday 2nd March, next week. We will be sending out a questionnaire on Monday to see which pupils need a place in school. We will NOT be closing our Sixth form, but we will ask all families where safe alternatives arrangements for their child can be made, to do this to help us keep pupil numbers at a manageable level. Please may I remind you that those coming into school will not be following the normal timetable, but will instead be taking part in sport, craft and other activities.
Very best wishes to you all for a lovely weekend.
Mrs J Rigby

Next Week In School is
World Book Day Week of Activities:
Monday 27th February – Friday 3rd March 2023
Literacy Across the Curriculum theme – ‘Transport – Back to the Future’
World Book Day is approaching and, as always, we are looking to use this as an opportunity to promote core literacy skills and build links with the world beyond school. World Book Day was created in 1995 by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Science and Cultural Organisation) on Shakespeare’s birthday, 23rd April. It is now celebrated in over 100 countries around the world!
In the spirit of the UNESCO vision, this year we are teaming up with the Technology Faculty so that we can give our students a boost with their STEM subject knowledge. The theme is ‘Transport – Back to the Future’. We are also celebrating our library reopening. During the week students will have an opportunity to
- take part in a competition - draw or make a model of what they think transport will look like in the future*
- follow instructions to make a model vehicle linking forces and movement – the BIG Car Race on Friday afternoon!
- have fun with science experiments that explore forces
- visit our library to read the new transport books we have bought
- and to spend their World Book Day voucher – we have found a company who are going to deliver the FREE world book day books to the school.
- We will also be screening showings of Back to the Future and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

There will be a non-uniform/dress-up day on Friday 3rd March 2023. Students will be able to come to school dressed as either a character from a favourite story [book, film or television series], a person from a non-fiction book or anything linked to the world of work and jobs related to transport.

Meadow High School Hello Youtube Channel
– Lots of Stories to enjoy!
To support this year’s World Book Day/Technology Faculty Transport Week, I have checked through the stories we have already posted and found these you might be interested in watching:
|
|
A great real-life adventure story about an explorer who decided that it would be a good idea to take a hen with him for company when he decided to sail to a very cold and dangerous part of the world
|
|
About an adventurous little snail who is tired of his life sitting on a rock. He wants to see the world and finds a very different type of transport! (A good story to build your memory or everyday signs.)
|
|
A story you can sing that has the most transport I have even come across in a story!
Join me, and sing and sign along. (More great signing practise for all the school!)
|
|
Remember:
We will be posting two new stories on Wednesday 1st March. The stories this month are:

Jasmin won the Jack Petchey Award for January
Jasmin was nominated for the Jack Petchey award for always having a positive attitude and showing respect to her friends and other students. Jasmin is always keen to help others in the sixth form. She also comes up with great ideas in meetings and lessons.
Well Done Jasmin!
Jasmin chose to spend £300 towards a new Wii U console for the common room.

Meadow High School - Corporate Videos
In November 2022, students from BCA College studying Creative Media came to film at Meadow as part of one of their study units, to produce a corporate video.
You can view the videos on the school website or Meadow High School Hello Youtube.
One of the BCA students, Harry, is a former pupil at Meadow. He said "thanks again for this opportunity, it's been an honour to give back to the school".
Another BCA student, Jude, said "When I arrived at Meadow High School, I thought this school was lovely and had lots of respect."
Thank you BCA students for the videos !
