Dear Parents
I can't believe we are at half-term already. No school next week, and please remember we have a training day on Friday, 10th November, so there are no pupils in school on that Friday.
This week has been a busy week starting with some dance workshops for some pupils on Monday and ends today with our Wear Red to "Give Racism the Red Card". This week's news from Israel and Gaza has highlighted how important it is that we give racism the red card and treat all people as equals and that we do not judge each other on the basis of race, religion or cultural heritage. As a school we are committed to challenge racism in our community and help our pupils to understand how racism impacts on people within our school and wider community. Across this year we have a number of events booked to support us in achieving this. Today's wear red day is just a small part of our overall plan.
A couple of classes have moved rooms today because of issues round climbing stairs and safety. Mr Cowley's class have moved from the temporary new buildings across into the new building and Mrs Daniel's class have moved into the new temporary block.
I know Mrs Fabish wants to share some information and, hopefully, photos from last week from our Germany School visit so I will keep my bit short.
Have a great half-term and don't forget that the clocks go back one hour at 2am on Sunday 29th of October - so enjoy the extra hour!
Ms C Caddell
Deputy Headteacher

Hello from Meadow's Governors!
As Autumn half-term is already upon us we'd like to welcome all our Year 7 joiners and hope you've settled in well. To everyone else, welcome back.
As a quick reminder, school governors are responsible for appointing and working with our head teacher, approving the school's budget and setting the vision and strategy for Meadow. We have a mix of experience in subject areas (accounting, HR, school management for example), some of us have or had children at Meadow, we have a local authority appointed governor and a school staff governor. If you search for "governors" on the school website, you can find out more about us. We can be contacted via the School Office at meadow@meadowhighschool.org or free to say hello if you see one of us around school, we have black and white "Governor" lanyards.
Governors' recent focus has been on expansion at Royal Lane and Northwood Road, safeguarding, attendance, the achievement of our children and the ever present task of monitoring our budget. We would like to thank all our staff and pupils for working so well adapt to our new temporary classrooms and assure you we're all looking forward to the return of the playground when our great new building is complete.
Finally, a small advertisement. We are looking to recruit a new parent or carer governor. Details will be coming out next half-term, and you'll have the opportunity to meet some governors, where we can give you more information about the role and our experiences. Meanwhile, please give some thought as to whether you would like the opportunity to support our school and help drive it forward as a governor. Watch this space for more information soon!

Use of Mobile Phones Year 7 - 11
A quick reminder to year 7 - 11 pupils that, once they arrive on school premises, mobile phones must be put away. All mobile phones (and other electronic devices - iPads etc) must be handed in to Form Tutors during registration. These will be kept in the class safe and handed back at the end of the day. Any pupil seen using their mobile (or other electronic device) once on school premises in the morning will be directed to put the phone away immediately until it can be handed in to their Form Tutor in registration. At the end of the day, all devices need to be kept in either their school bag (or pocket) until they are off site. No pupil should be using a mobile (or iPad etc) once on the school premises.

Assistant Headteacher Year 9-11

School Uniform!
Thank you all for adapting to the recent uniform changes. It is wonderful to see (almost!) every young person is now in the correct uniform!
Please ensure all items of school uniform are named (including their coats//jackets, shoes and PE kit), as the school cannot accept any legal responsibility for lost or stolen items of clothing.
Unfortunately, some pupils have ‘lost’ items of uniform (usually a fleece or sweatshirt) that have had their name in, and it still can’t be found at school. Can I ask all parents/carers to check their young person’s uniforms please? Whilst one advantage of school uniforms is that everyone looks so similar, there can also be a disadvantage - now that everyone is wearing similar clothing it is very easy for a young person to bring home something that actually belongs to someone else! If you do find an imposter item of uniform please return it to school!
Thank you all so much!
Ms. J Richards
Assistant Headteacher Year 9 - 11

Anti-Racism Coffee Morning
Last Friday we held our first coffee morning with Audrey Pantalis. This was a great opportunity for parents and carers to meet Audrey. Audrey was able to explain her role within the School and the work that has already started with our students and staff.
The coffee morning was a great success and gave everyone the chance to talk openly in a safe environment.
Parents and Carers have welcomed the idea of meeting again, so watch this space for new dates.

Anti-Racism Co-Ordinator's

We're conducting an independent study into why school avoidance happens, what support was provided (if any), what ages it begins, and what outcomes occur.
We'd be so grateful if you'd spare just 5-minutes to complete out survey or share it with anyone who has children/young people who have experienced school avoidance.
