Dear Families
Reading
I hope you have had the opportunity to see and maybe read some of the range of new books that pupils are accessing from the school library and class book sets. A lot of thought has gone into sourcing books, which are engaging, representative and accessible and pupils are feeding back their enjoyment to us. If you have any suggestions for topics, books or themes for our library, we would love to hear about them. You can let us know via your pupils' link book or drop an email to the school.
Anti-racism
We were delighted to welcome Audrey Pentalis back to school this week. Audrey ran anti-racism workshops across the school day with pupil groups. Pupils are exploring this challenging subject with a great deal of maturity. Alongside our work with Diversity Role Models and ongoing work regarding tolerance, we feel that the school community is making significant progress.
Whilst thinking about relationships and tolerance, please find a reminder below about how to report concerns or seek support:
Behaviour, safety and general support: please contact your child's Form Tutor or the Welfare Team
Out of hours safeguarding:
- for urgent concerns about a pupil's safety use 01895 556006 for the Hillingdon's Stronger Families Hub.
- you can also dial 999 for support should you or your child be at immediate risk. We advise saying that your child attends Meadow High School and has a learning disability.
- you can also call the NSPCC helpline by calling 0808 800 5000 or emailing help@NSPCC.org.uk. Due to an increase in demand across the service, the voice Helpline is currently available 10am–8pm Monday to Friday.
Assembly
Pupils reflected on the act of remembrance and the poppy as a symbol of this. We learned how the poppy came to be adopted as the symbol for the Royal British Legion and looked at the ceremonies that took place over the weekend.
Children in Need 2023
I am always impressed at how our pupils enthusiastically engage with charity work and this year was no exception. Thank you to all our pupils and families for your donations.
We think it is very important for our pupils to be part of local, national and international events. This helps them learn about the world around them and will enable them to participate in their community. It also helps them to grow their social-emotional skills and feel a sense of belonging.
Road Crossing
My final paragraph is a plea that everyone visiting the school uses either the Zebra Crossing or the Refuge Island with bollards. When pupils see adults not using these safe crossing points they may assume that it is OK for them to nip across the road at points which are less safe. We always educate our pupils to use the safest crossing point if it is available. Please help keep all our pupils safe by modelling this for them. Thank you in advance.
Very best wishes to you all for a happy and safe weekend.
Kind regards
Mrs J Rigby
