Dear Families
Here are some highlights and our 'To do' list! I have made a few comments in bold.
- Safeguarding: The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Because this was a Section 8 inspection that is the only comment we receive.
- Pupils at Meadow High School are well supported to develop as individuals and citizens who will make a positive contribution to society.
- They benefit from a wide variety of activities, events and opportunities that enhance their experience of school.
- Pupils feel happy and are kept safe at the school. They feel confident to raise any worries they have with staff and are confident staff will resolve these concerns swiftly.
- Pupils are proud to take on additional responsibilities.
- Pupils also contribute positively to the local community.
- Leaders are ambitious for all pupils.
- Pupils learn a curriculum that matches the breadth of what is expected nationally.
- Careful consideration is given to how education, health and care plan (EHC plan) targets help shape the curriculum and the activities pupils undertake.
- Assessment is typically used well to check pupils’ progress towards their individual targets.
- In some subjects, careful thought has been given to what pupils will learn and when. This helps pupils to consolidate their understanding before progressing to more complex ideas.
- Similarly, in personal, social and health education (PSHE), pupils revisit important ideas, including healthy and respectful relationships and staying safe when online.
- Pupils’ language development is prioritised. Staff are well trained in different communication systems.
- Reading is promoted throughout the school.
- Staff manage behaviour well.
- Leaders prioritise preparing pupils for their lives beyond school.
- Life skills lessons are designed to prepare pupils to develop independence.
- The curriculum helps pupils to recognise and respect diversity.
There is a to do list and Curriculum Leads and SLT have already started work to address what has been identified.
- To ensure greater clarity about what pupils need to learn and remember in each curriculum area, leading to greater depth of knowledge and understanding.
- To ensure the key concepts are identified and taught in all subjects.
- To ensure that all pupils are supported to develop confidence, accuracy and fluency in reading by a systematic synthetic phonics (SSP) program.
- To ensure that staff receive high quality SSP training.
- To work with families to ensure that their child is accessing education appropriately leading to better attendance.
- To ensure close oversight of suspensions.
I hope you can see that there are a tremendous amount of positives for us to build on and develop as well as some clearly defined areas for us to make improvements.
Thank you to everyone for your support and feedback. I look forward to working with you over the coming years to continue to develop our provision for the benefit of your children.
Very best wishes,
|

Warm PE Kit
Dear Parents / Carers
Due to the weather getting colder and the limited space for PE lessons, we advise all students to wear warmer clothing with their PE kit to be able to take part in lessons and adapt to the cold.
Students can wear the following:

- Base layers which are black or navy blue and not see through. It can be worn with their PE tops, shorts or tracksuit bottoms.
- Students can wear their jackets outside if advised to, depending on the weather.

Kind regards

Collection For The Local Food Bank
Dear school staff/parents/carers
Our Sixth form students do volunteering (as part of their vocational pathway) at the local food bank on a weekly basis to build their essential transferrable skills.
Foodbank is supporting thousands of people to meet their food needs. Foodbank is collecting some donations to make Christmas hampers to support families who are in need to make their festive season more special and enjoyable. Please see the leaflets below for the items required for this kind cause.
If you would like to donate and be a part of this kindness, please send any donations to school with your child. We will be collecting this donation until 14/12/2023.
Have a wonderful Christmas, stay safe and enjoy!
Many thanks,
Vocational Team

World Book Day 2024
has been announced!
From Monday 4th March till Friday 8th March 2024 we will be celebrating World Book Day! World Book Day is an annual celebration of stories, books and reading, and each of our students will receive a £1 book token to receive a free book of their choice from the selection below:
We are really lucky this year to be able to have the books delivered directly to school for students to collect from our Librarian, Miss Gaafar. Your child’s form tutor has been working with your child to choose the book they want from the comfort of their form room, which means you don’t have to worry about visiting a book shop outside of school times!
More information about how we will be celebrating World Book Day 2024 will be sent out near the date. In the meantime, why not take a look at the video below announcing World Book Day 2024:

Library Books Reminder
This is a gentle reminder that your child should be returning ALL books borrowed from the school library back to school. If your child has any books from the school library at home, please bring them back into school as soon as possible so these can be returned.
Books can be borrowed for two weeks, after which they will need to be returned to the library. If your child wishes to borrow their book(s) for longer than two weeks, they must speak to the Librarian.
As you will appreciate, new books are expensive, and the Librarian keeps track to ensure books are being returned on time. If book(s) are not returned, are lost or are damaged beyond repair, a letter will be sent home asking for payment towards a replacement.
Unfortunately, there is no alternative but to implement this course of action. Pupils who fail to return or lose their library books will be able to continue to enjoy books in the library but not be able to borrow library books until payment has been made. Please note that the Librarian will take any extenuating circumstances into consideration before issuing payment requests for replacements, and will discuss this with your child’s form tutor.
If you have any questions, please contact the Librarian, Miss S Gaafar, at sgaafar@meadowhighschool.org.

Compass Theatre Pantomime – Family Tickets to see Dick Whittington
|
|

The Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme are offering our families the chance to attend a performance of Dick Whittington at the Compass Theatre. Compass Theatre's pantomimes are performed by a professional adult cast working alongside locally auditioned, amateur juniors - and are always packed-full of audience participation, jokes, songs, dancing and celebration. Dick Whittington is the ultimate Londoner's pantomime, telling the legendary tale from English folklore of Richard Whittington and his cat - a humble merchant who later became Lord Mayor.
To ensure that we can offer this opportunity to as many children as possible we are limiting the number of adults to one per family. If your child has additional support needs or disabilities and may require an additional carer, please contact us via HAFprogramme@hilingdon.gov.uk to request tickets.
To request your tickets please complete the form below, there are limited tickets available, and our team will contact you to confirm if you will be receiving tickets. We have 3 performances to choose from:
