Dear Families
What a week!
I won't go into too much detail about the activities, as I know the team who have organised our amazing World Book Day and Careers Week, as we will be telling you lots about it below and sharing photos in next week's bulletin, but here are a few highlights from me:
- A visit and talk from 2 ex-pupils, both of whom are in full-time paid employment following the completion of their supported internship.
- Hearing the incredible hubbub of excited chatter from a group of pupils who had just left the pop-up Planetarium dome.
- Reading three of my favourite short rhyming stories to two groups in the library.
- Seeing the creative outfits that pupils and staff came up with for their book character or Life Beyond Meadow outfit.
- Watching pupils have a go at bricklaying and tiling
A week like this takes a huge amount of effort and organisation, but from seeing and hearing the pupils' responses, it is so valuable. I hope the work we have done this week and across the year will support your child to have a conversation with you about their aspirations for Life Beyond Meadow.
Injections
Year 8 and 9 HPV vaccinations. Please make sure you have completed your online permission slip, so your child can have this important vaccination at school.
Parents' Evening
We look forward to seeing you at next Tuesday's Parents' Evening. A few of our staff will unfortunately be absent:
- Miss Popov
- Mr Parker
- Mrs Bergin
Please ensure you arrive promptly for your preferred time-slot and be understanding if staff need to complete your conversation in order to ensure the next person can start on time.
Give and Share
The local charity Give and Share are starting their next donation and fundraising campaigns. Please see ways you can donate and support below.
|
|
- It’s just a few short weeks until Good Friday and that means 4 weeks until we will be preparing to deliver our Easter treat hampers to our struggling families. For this we are asking if you are able too, could you consider donating an Easter Egg
- One of our biggest ways of raising money throughout the year is by running our legendary bottle tombola. This year we are looking for anything that comes in a bottle, this can include wines, spirits and beers, toiletries and cleaning products, soft drinks and food items eg ketchup etc.
- Lots of our supporters have fun by getting neighbours involved and doing a street collection, could you be one of them?
Your support really means so much. If you would like to get involved we would be more than happy to support you with collecting your donations and giving you ideas of how you can get your neighbours involved too.

|
As always thank you so much for supporting Give and Share
Very best wishes to you all for promises to be a beautiful weekend.

Scholastic Book Fair
We were excited to run our first Scholastic Book Fair last week. We enjoyed hosting families visiting to browse through the book selection on offer and it was also an opportunity for parents to meet up and take a few well-deserved minutes to enjoy refreshments in our lovely library.
|
|
|
ALL students had the opportunity to visit during the week to spend a £40 class book token, working as a team to choose some new books for their class reading library.
Thanks to your generosity we now have 941 reward points to spend on books for our library and to encourage reading in school.

WORLD BOOK DAY Week
4th – 8th March 2024
Celebrating Reading and National Careers Week
Exploring the World of Work
|
|
The students have had a really interesting week building their engagement with books whether this was disappearing into the world of stories [including lunchtime reading sessions] or finding out information about favourite and new topics. This year we collaborated with the Vocational Faculty and our Careers Team to provide a range of activities, talks and workshops linked to the world of work. This included important partners who work with the school to provide next steps paths for our students towards achieving their future goals. Photos to follow next week but in the meanwhile we have to say a huge thank you to our fabulous staff for their support this week and the fantastic staff from
Green Corridor - https://www.greencorridor.org.uk/
BUILD - https://www.buildtraining.co.uk/
ISG (the team building our new building – thank you James!)
Planetarium Domes and
Marriott Hotel Project Search (ex-students Brian and Michael have now built very successful careers through this project and were able to pass on really valuable advice). Please take a moment to watch this video – you will meet Brian and Michael but also gain a clear insight into how this programme supports students into the world of work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhLqebNH7N8

Year 7 Trip - Junior Citizens Day
Year 7 attended the Junior Citizenship Event at Brunel University yesterday, where they learnt about being a safe citizen in our local community. Talks and activities were given by the Metropolitan police, the road safety team from TfL and the RNLI. The year group were extremely sensible and were a credit to the school!
