Dear Families
This week we have given feedback to pupils from two surveys they have taken part in.
One survey was specifically about the pupil experience. Whilst there were many positive responses there were also areas where pupils raised issues. These were:
- I would tell my teachers if my lessons got too hard - 3.6% disagreed
- Children behave well in school - 7.2% strongly disagreed
- Lunch and play times are well organised - 4.8% disagreed
- I am encouraged to join in with sports teams - 7.2% disagreed
- The school encourages me to help in the local area - 4.8% disagreed
Additionally, pupils wrote a number of comments and suggestions for our meal provision at lunchtime.
We are working with the school forum and staff team to gain greater understanding of the issues raised and to find ways of addressing these concerns.

|
|
The second survey was our anti racism survey that all pupils and staff are invited to participate in. We had 178 pupil responses and below, are our survey results with some explanation from me:
|
|
We have quite a diverse pupil population and this has increased since last year. We are now seeking to recruit an equally diverse staff team to support our pupils.
|
|
Not unexpectedly, there has been an increase in pupils identifying certain behaviours as racist. We anticipated that as pupils gained a greater understanding about anti racism, this would enable them to better identify inappropriate behaviours. Being able to know it's not OK is a vital part of the journey for all our pupils. This is a high priority area of development for the school.
|
|
We are very pleased that pupils feel they are more racially aware than they were last year. Clearly though, we still have significant work to do to make our pupils more racially aware.
|
|
We are delighted that pupils feel that they are less likely to be treated differently on the basis of their race than they did last year. However, we will still be working on this as our aspiration would be that no pupil feels that they are treated differently on this basis.
|
|
The Flair platform has produced an action plan for us on the basis of our results and we will be working with this over the coming year to push forward the school's anti racism work.
We would be very grateful to all families for their support in our anti racism work.
Very best wishes for a fantastic weekend.

Last week we celebrated Red Nose Day, we had a whole school assembly, where we learnt about Red Nose Day and why it is celebrated, and enjoyed a yummy cake sale and dressed up in red (Non Uniform Day) .
Our Head Students, Lazaro and Poppy, with the support of Yusef and Vinnay sold all of our Red noses each morning during registration. Thank you all for raising over £85 for Comic relief !
Thank you for everyone's kind donations. From the Cake Sale and selling Red Noses we made £138.21 in total.

Tobacco and Vapes Bill
introduced to Parliament yesterday
Smoke free generation one step closer
as bill introduced
Children turning 15 this year and under,
will never be able to legally purchase tobacco
The Tobacco and Vapes Bill will deliver on the Prime Minister's commitment to create a smoke free generation, saving thousands of lives and billions for the NHS.
With the aim of creating a “smoke free generation”, the Bill will mean that children turning 15 this year and under, will never be able to legally purchase tobacco. The government’s latest press release on the Bill stresses that the act of smoking will not be criminalised, and that anyone who can legally buy tobacco now will not be prevented from doing so in the future.
The Bill will also allow the government to restrict vape flavours and packaging aimed at children, as well as give it powers to alter how vapes are displayed in shops. Enforcement officers will be able to issue ‘on the spot’ £100 fines to shops who make underage sales of vapes and tobacco.
