Dear Families
Mrs Rigby has not been well this week, so I am writing this week's update.
Last week, some of the Pathway 1 pupils enjoyed a week's residential trip to Centre Parcs. They had a great time and hopefully have all recovered from it. I think most of the staff have!!!! See the pupils' reviews and more in this bulletin for a bit more about what went on while there.
Summer Activities
I can't believe we are already at the last half-term holiday for this school year. Only a few more weeks before the summer holiday! Whilst we, as a school, are not running a summer holiday club this year, there are quite a few things going on across Hillingdon and now is the time to keep an eye out and book places on these. When we have details shared with us, we add them to the end of the bulletin. Please let us know if you want any help, and we can try to support you. However, unfortunately, as they are not the school's events, we are limited in what we can do. Hopefully, once all the building work is completed here, we will be able to run our own clubs again.
Build Update - Northwood Road
This takes me nicely onto my next topic - build updates. If you keep an eye on the local press, you might have seen that the Northwood Road site in Harefield is finally underway and the Build Team are optimistic that it will all go smoothly. The brand-new school is designed to meet the needs of Pathway One pupils and will offer an exciting and suitable environment to help us as a school provide an exciting and relevant curriculum to meet the needs of pupils. This new building offers many more opportunities for us to develop the Pathway One curriculum. It's bespoke design and layout offer not just classrooms, but a building designed to allow the Pathway One curriculum to develop and pupils to gain even more independent life skills. The building company running the Northwood Road Lane project is the same company that is building the current extension to the Royal Lane site, and we have a great relationship with this Build Team. Fingers crossed it all keeps to schedule. I can't wait to see the finished building !
Build Update - Royal Lane
All the building works on the Royal Lane site are on schedule, and we hopefully will be moving into this part of the new building in January 2025. In the new building, we will have a new 6th form common room, an extra food technology kitchen, a new science lab and music room, in addition to extra classrooms, offices and breakout work spaces etc. This should really help the school to continue to deliver an interesting and exciting curriculum for years to come. Over the summer holiday we are getting a couple of extra temporary classrooms on site to give us space for new pupils and once the new building is opened all the temporary classrooms will go, giving us back the much-needed blue playground at the front of school.

Finally, next week is half-term and the school is closed. Staff return on Monday 3rd June when we have staff training and some pupils and families have annual review meetings. School re-opens to pupils on Tuesday 4th June.
Have a lovely and safe holiday. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us!

Lost Property
Over the last few months, we have collected quite a lot of unclaimed property, such as coats, lunchboxes, and water bottles.
As we have had no joy in finding the owners, we will be putting the belongings on a table out the front on the last day for parents to look. If they are not collected by their rightful owners, they will be donated. Thank you, Welfare Team

Megan Won the
Jack Petchey Award for May 2024
Megan was nominated for the Jack Petchey award as she has massively improved her independence; Megan is kind and very helpful towards both her peers and staff members. She is always ready to learn, remains focused and enthusiastic about her learning. Megan works very hard to make sure everyone knows what is expected of them and never hesitates to support those who struggle.
She truly is an exceptional young lady and she is an excellent role model.
Well Done Megan!
Megan chose to spend £300 towards playtime equipment and Pizza for the class.

Coming Soon:
Prom 2024
Thursday 11th July 7.30pm – 10:00pm
To celebrate the achievements of our Year 11 and 6th Form students, we will be holding our school Prom on Thursday 11th July 2024 between 7:30pm and 10:00pm in the school hall. Ticket price £10.
We are having to do things a little bit differently again this year as the school’s build project is still in full swing. But don’t worry, we have lots of exciting plans to make the evening really special.
The theme this year is Eras, a retro-chic celebration of fashion through time. This reflects the work we have been doing with our students on sustainable fashion and finding your own style – at Meadow High School we set the trend, we don’t need to follow it – celebrating our individuality and expressing who we are is what it’s all about! Wear what makes you feel amazing!
So, time to sort through your wardrobe, ask family/friends to borrow items you’ve secretly always had your eye on, revamp, restyle – What is your style era? How do you want to celebrate your individual style?
Prom Shop: Our Prom Shop will be opening its doors again. However, this year we are running it a bit like a swishing party. Students can bring in a prom-type item and swap it for something else for FREE! If you don’t have anything to swap but would like to come along and have a look, that’s fine too.
Donations Please : ) If you have any items you would like to donate we would be very grateful indeed.
The Salon: The Salon will be open; you will be able to book an appointment as usual. Having this wonderful salon is part of Miss Lennon’s legacy and a gift we will always treasure.
Prom letters will be coming home after half-term, ticket sales will open and booking appointments can begin.
Until then, we hope that you have a wonderful half-term break.
Mrs Sugden & Mrs Tudor
[On behalf of all MHS Staff]

Pathway 1
Residential Trip to Centre Parcs
We enjoyed a lovely trip to Centre Parcs last Monday 13th May until Friday 17th May.
We had a great time and did lots of activities, including archery, swimming, laser tag, a Bird of Prey experience, Segway and we walked lots! The trip was an opportunity for our young people to develop their independence, life skills and, for many, it was their first ever time away from home. As part of our activities, we were fortunate enough to celebrate two birthdays.
The activities give all the young people a chance to try something new with their friends and delight in cheering each other on!

"We went on the bus to centre parcs and when we got there we had our packed lunch, I had chicken strips, apple, grapes and a citrus oasis. We then went shopping to get our food for the lodges and once we was back our lodges were ready and we unpacked all of our stuff. I shared a lodge with Miss McKinley, Miss Evans, Vinaay, Kofi and Isiah. The first night we had pizza and chips for dinner. We had yummy dinners such as sausage and mash and chicken and rice. I really enjoyed pancakes and syrup for breakfast, they made me HYPER!
We did many activities at centre parcs such as laser tag, swimming, golf, bowling, and went on the Segway’s and we learnt about owls and was able to hold one on our arm. My favourite activities was bowling and swimming because they were fun activities, especially swimming as we got to go on the water slides, the lazy river and went into the wave pool.
We also celebrated two birthdays at centre parcs. Alicia’s birthday was on Monday and Adam’s birthday was on Thursday. On Adam’s birthday we played squash."
I had the best time at Centre Parcs." Aaran C.

Pathway 1
KS4 and KS5 Activities
Last week, our on-site KS4 and KS5 students enjoyed a fruitful culinary experience, preparing wholesome meals with fresh ingredients, and avoiding processed foods.
With summer approaching, they eagerly seized the opportunity to learn the art of crafting their own barbecues. Additionally, they demonstrated a commendable commitment to environmental sustainability by reducing landfill waste through the use of reusable bags during shopping for ingredients, as well as opting for reusable cutlery, plates, and cups. However, they encountered a challenge with excessive packaging from stores, limiting their options for ingredient selection. Despite their best efforts, they could only find onions with packaging. We encourage stores like Tesco to offer more package-free options for ingredients, thereby supporting our students’ commitment to reducing waste and promoting sustainability.
Throughout the week, we thoroughly enjoyed observing our students to develop their social, community, and life skills in preparation for their life after Meadow.

Sixth Form Visit to
Greencore Food To Go in Stockley
Some Sixth form students visited the Greencore company as part of their work experience with the local employer.
Students had a great opportunity to tour the site and understand the process of food packing. Students were able to see the different machines such as cheese slicer/grater, food chopper, food mixer in the food preparation area, where goods come in and are dispatched from, work-in-progress chillers, how goods are sanitised and the massive dish cleaning area.
Students and staff were absolutely thrilled to see and experience the production line of food packing. Students worked on the production line to pack the raspberry and peach bircher pot. Greencore staff were very welcoming and friendly to our students.
Students were very delighted to accept small gifts of a water bottle, pen and yogurt pots from Greencore.
All students had a great experience of the world of work and understanding of different job roles which they could do in the future.
