Dear Families
This has been a busy week for everyone with so much going on in school and on the site.
As I walk around the school I am very proud of the work going on in Bubbles. As you know, our focus has been to transition pupils successfully back to school, to help them to re-engage with others, to address their concerns and fears, to get them re-used to the structure of a school day and to help them learn all the new skills they need to cope with a world where Covid is present. Seeing the creativity of staff and pupils has been inspiring and I am very glad that we extended our class based Bubbles up to the October half term, as many of our pupils are still processing 'lockdown' and the change and impact this had for them.
I will be sharing an updated Covid Response Risk Assessment next week on our website and next week's bulletin will have more information for you on what school will be like for pupils on their return on 2nd November, after the half term break.
Covid
We have had no confirmed cases within our community this week.
A reminder on what to do if your child has suspected symptoms:
- Do not send them into school.
- They should isolate at home for the appropriate amount of time and preferably have a test booked for them.
- If you cannot book a test contact the school attendance team.
- Pupils CANNOT return to school until the isolation period has ended or we have been provided evidence of a negative test result.

Thank you in anticipation of your support.
Assembly
This week Mr Hornal, one of our KS5 teaching assistants, 'Braved the Shave' for Macmillan cancer support. During the assembly I took the opportunity to look at the fantastic work the Macmillan nurses do and why they exist. Discussing topics like cancer is never easy as it is an emotive subject for many of us. My key messages to pupils were:
- everyone gets ill at some point in their life and for some people this might be with cancer.
- lots of people recover from cancer, just as they do from other illnesses.
We looked at the science of cancer and then the signs and symptoms that could indicate something is not right. I was careful to stress that having any of the signs and symptoms does not mean the person definitely has cancer, but that the pupil should always tell a trusted adult so that they can arrange a doctor's appointment.
Thank you to Mr Hornal for not only entertaining us, but raising money for such a worthwhile cause.
Thank you to Ms Lennon for sharing her personal story with us and for shaving Mr Hornal's head!
Thank you to 11AM and DL for being such a good assembly audience and participators.
11AM: Callan, Jayden, Oscar, Kaine, Rokas, Alishba, Safwan, Uvejs, Aaron
DL: Sam, Nistlerooy, Nadir, Lacey, Erin, Mehreen, Stacey, Danyal, Kian, Paul
Pumpkins
I have had great fun watching Bubble groups this week hunting for the pumpkins that are hidden about the site. As there is one in my office window I have had lots of little visitors looking in on me and bringing a smile to my face.
Thanks to everyone who created the pumpkins and Miss Nolan for organising this fun event.
Build
Our attenuation tank (rainwater collection tank) is now built and is currently disappearing back under soil and turf on the school field.
The site of the new build is having the underground work completed and we have been told that the steel frame will start to be erected mid-November. This is likely to be the noisiest part of the whole build as there will be metal cutting involved. We have ordered additional ear defenders which we will allocate to pupils who need them. If your child makes you aware that they are struggling due to the sound of the build, please let the Form Tutor know so ear defenders can be issued.
Many thanks to you for your support and feedback, all of which have helped us immensely!
Best wishes for a great weekend.
