Dear Families

You should have all received a letter this week confirming your childs 'Pathway' at Meadow and what this means in regard to the location of their education from September 2023.

Please may I remind you that we are sending a questionnaire around Easter to the families of Pathway 1 pupils. We hope to gather your thoughts and concerns so that we can move forward in partnership with you.  Following the questionnaire, we will be looking at any common issues that we can address with all families, issues that affect specific groups / families and issues that need to be addressed on a one to one basis. 

We will also be sharing a link to our Frequently Asked Question page (FAQ) which will be posted on our website next week.  This will allow you to see what other families are asking as they may raise issues that are common to you.

Should you have an urgent query in the interim please email it to meadow@meadowhighschool.org  We are monitoring this inbox once a week.

If you do follow us, I hope you have enjoyed seeing lots of photos from our residential trip in Devon this week, the trolley loads of donations to support the victims in Ukraine and information about the Fearless workshop that took place  @Fearless_Ldn @FearlessORG @CrimestoppersUK

Last week you would have seen photos from our hair salon, table tennis, the progress of our sports hall and MUGA, donations for our cake sale and 6th form pupils brushing a pig at the farm!

There is always something interesting and informative to see!

Medical Appointments

If your child has any medical appointments, please can you inform the school by email or by sending medical evidence into school. 

If your child has had a change of, or has stopped any daily medication, please can you let the school know, so we can record and support any changes that may happen.

Residential Trip to Devon 

There's been a lot of updates on our twitter account from the Devon trip this week.  Students have been having an amazing time!  Today, they are still travelling back now, but in the meantime here are some pictures from the week.

WE ARE GUINESS WORLD RECORD HOLDERS !

In May 2021, students from Years 7-9 took part in a Royal Mail competition to design a postage stamp. The theme was 'Heroes' and our students created beautiful designs that were sent to Royal Mail. This was actually the 'Largest Postage Stamp Design Competition' ever, so Meadow students are now part of the Guiness World Record for this category. Well done to all who entered!

National Child Exploitation Awareness Day

Friday 18th March marks National Child Exploitation Awareness Day - a time for organisations to raise awareness about the importance of all forms of exploitation. This includes modern slavery, criminal exploitation, sexual exploitation, and trafficking.  The aim is to highlight and share good safeguarding practice and key areas for practice development linked to exploitation. 

What Is Child Sexual Exploitation?

Child sexual exploitation (CSE) is a type of sexual abuse.  It occurs when an individual or group takes advantage of a power imbalance to manipulate a child into sexual activity. It can happen in person or online. For more information about CSE, please visit the NSPCC website and the Safeguarding Partnership’s CSE page.

Odd Sock Day - Wear Odd Socks To School
World Downs Syndrome Awareness Week

On Monday 21st March, we will be raising awareness of Downs Syndrome. As part of this national day, students and staff are asked to wear odd socks. People born with Downs Syndrome have a 3rd copy of chromosome 21, so we raise awareness on the 21st day of the 3rd month. Students will be taking part in activities to learn more about Downs Syndrome in their lessons.

Mothers' Day Sale

The students in the charity shop have worked hard on a special table dedicated to items for sale for Mother's Day (which is on Sunday 27 March this year).   We have had some masses of donations for the shop and have picked out some lovely items that the students think are suitable for gifts for Mothers Day. These items range from face masks to candles and even handbags. Items are priced between 20p and £2 if your child would like to come and purchase anything. We are open every lunchtime and Wednesday & Thursday as part of our work experience for the 6th form students. 

Also if you would like to donate anything to the shop please contact Miss Wilson at swilson@meadowhighschool.org to discuss if you have items suitable for our charity shop.

The Sexual Health and Wellbeing Service (KISS) are seeing young people on a Tuesday and Thursday 3.00pm-5.30pm at the Children and Family Hub in Uxbridge. Offering advice on relationships,

c-cards, condoms, pregnancy testing and signposting to other services where needed. For more information about this please contact:

Household support fund

A household support grant is available to support those most in need this winter.

About the new household support grant

The government recently announced that a new household support grant will be available to support those most in need this winter, supporting low-income households with food and utility costs (energy and water bills).

It will also be available for other essential costs, such as emergelncy boiler and heating repairs, and housing costs where existing housing support schemes such as Housing Benefit, Universal Credit and Discretionary Housing Payments do not meet the exceptional need.

The funding in this scheme is expected to have been spent by Thursday 31 March 2022 inclusive.

WEBINAR:   THE ANNUAL REVIEW OF THE EHCP 3/3

Dear parents/carers,

Hillingdon PCF is delighted to offer forum members that are resident in Hillingdon borough, an invitation to join the next free online daytime webinar, on the topic of the Annual Review of the EHCP. This is the final webinar of the series.
 
Thursday 24th March 2022, noon-2pm
 
This is a webinar for all parents/carers, whether you are applying for an EHCP or you already have one.  It will take you through the Annual Review process, how to prepare and what to expect at and after the review. Many parents find this process frustrating, but this session will help you better advocate for your child. There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the webinar.
 
Tanya Williams is delivering the presentation and is a parent of 2 young people with SEN, who understands the importance of parent empowerment and this is why she began running workshops, advice clinics and webinars for support groups and other PCFs.
