Cultivating Compassion
In this week's assembly we looked at how we can 'Cultivate compassion' for ourselves, our loved ones, people we are not getting on with and the whole world!
We practised a mantra together taken from the Buddhist tradition. This is repeated over and over whilst concentrating on ourselves or another. The appropriate person or group is inserted in the gap!
May _____ be happy
May _____ be healthy
May ______ be safe
May ______ be at ease
For instance:
May I be happy
May I be healthy
May I be safe
May I be at ease.
With this in mind, may I wish you all a happy, healthy, safe and stress-free half-term.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the normal time on Tuesday 5th November.
Very best wishes.
Kind regards,
Mrs J Rigby
Headteacher

Safer Schools Police Team Avice
For Pupils Travelling to and From School On Darker Evenings
We are fast approaching winter, clocks are due to go back within the week and the daylight hours are becoming shorter. Pupils may find themselves travelling to and from school in the hours of darkness over the coming months. Pupils and their parents are reminded that, in order to maximise their safety on their journeys to and from school, we would recommend:
- Where possible students walk/travel in pairs or groups to and from school.
- Walk down main roads/routes that are well lit. Avoid going through parks, alleys or other unlit or poorly lit areas.
- Ensure they are alert to the environment around them, avoid wearing headphones or being distracted by mobile phones and other devices.
- Students should have a set route to and from school that is discussed with parents and carers.
- Parents and carers have a personal safety conversation with their children.
- If they are concerned about their safety please call the police.

Meadow High School Hello Youtube Channel
– Lots of Stories to enjoy!
Extended Learning: Engaging with a range of stories provides lots of learning opportunities. Please remember that we have our own youtube channel where you’ll find a wide of stories to enjoy. Listening to stories can help boost reading and language skills;
- spark your imagination and stimulate curiosity
- help your brain, social skills and communication skills develop
- help learn new words as you read. Subconsciously, you will absorb information on how to structure sentences and how to use words and other language features effectively
- help with develop understanding of how to read, modelling pacing, proper intonation (using voice for expression) and correct pronunciation whilst immersing children in stories
- help develop comprehension skills – a crucial part of reading
- help inspire a love of books and reading – a life-long learning tool
We will be posting two new stories on Friday 1st November. The stories this month are :

|
Room on the Broom
by David McKee
read and signed by Mrs. Whittle.
This is a perfect Halloween book from the fabulous writer, Julia Donaldson. What will happen when a stormy wind blows away the witch’s hat, bow and wand away and they meet a greedy dragon!
|
|
The Beast
by Michaela Morgan
read by Mrs. Stroud.
When two friends hear a strong howling in the woods, they decide to capture themselves a wild beast and win fame and fortune. Fame – of a sort – does lie in wait, but not for the reason they think it will. Watch Mrs. Stroud’s video to find out more!

Wear Red
- Show Racism The Red Card Day
On Friday 18th October all students had the opportunity to wear red to show their support for Show Racism the Red Card - a leading UK charity providing anti-racism education within schools.
Students participated in various activities during the morning, including learning about what makes us similar and unique, discussing how we must treat people with respect and kindness and continuing to develop positive attitudes towards diversity.
All the students enjoyed the day!

In case you’re not familiar, a relaxed performance is a show that’s been adapted to suit people who might require a more relaxed environment when going to the theatre. Usually, these are people with learning difficulties, autism, dementia or sensory communication disorders. It might also be parents with young children and babies.
Our relaxed performance is brilliant for anyone who may find a typical theatre performances to be overwhelming or unpleasant. This can be attributed to triggers such as darkness, loud music, sudden noises, and an unfamiliar environment where one is expected to remain still and quiet for an extended period – we remove all of these from this show! We also include quieter music, reducing loud or surprising sound effects and avoiding strobe lighting.
As with all our performances, we have carer tickets available free of charge to those who are supporting someone in their visit to the theatre.
In addition, we currently have a 2-for-1 offer running, which you can access using the promo code: PANTO24 and by clicking on this link: https://booking.trafalgartickets.com/en/beck-theatre-hayes/specialoffer/ufjqwmadihqzo
