Dear Families
I hope this finds you all well. This week's bulletin focuses on Safeguarding. We ask our staff to report and record any concern they have about a pupil, however small, on our safeguarding system. This allows us to offer support to pupils and families where it is needed and also helps us gather information that may suggest a pattern of issues that require further support or intervention..
Safeguarding Team
It has been a while since I shared our safeguarding team with you. Please find the team and their areas of special interest / responsibility below:

Online Safety
The area of safeguarding that most concerns us for our pupils at the moment, is Online Safety. In school we have strong firewalls and filtering systems that are monitored closely. We also have high levels of adult supervision. Obviously, these are circumstances that cannot be easily replicated in the home.
For families, we recommend:
- Check the content lock is set on smartphones.
- Set parental controls on broadband.
- Control app downloads and in-app purchases.
- Make the games consoles secure.
- Use the safety mode on YouTube and Google.
- Check the privacy settings on social networks.
- Discuss online safety and create family rules around this.
- As important as blocking objectionable material is teaching your children safe and responsible online behaviour, and keeping a close eye on their Internet use.
- Spend time online together to teach your kids appropriate online behaviour.
- Keep the computer in a common area where you can watch and monitor its use, not in individual bedrooms. Monitor any time spent on smartphones or tablets.
- Bookmark kids' favourite sites for easy access.
- Check your credit card and phone bills for unfamiliar account charges.
- Find out what, if any, online protection is offered by your child's school, after-school centre, friends' homes, or any place where kids could use a computer without your supervision.
- Take your child seriously if he or she reports an uncomfortable online exchange.
Additionally, here are some basic guidelines to share with your children for safe online use:
- Follow the family rules and those set by the Internet service provider.
- Never post or trade personal pictures.
- Never reveal personal information, such as address, phone number, or school name or location.
- Use only a screen name and don't share passwords (other than with parents).
- Never agree to get together in person with anyone met online without parent approval and/or supervision.
- Never respond to a threatening email, message, post, or text.
- Always tell a parent or other trusted adult about any communication or conversation that was scary or hurtful.

It has come to our attention that some pupils may be using the app WIZZ on their devices. We strongly advise you to review your child’s device and consider removing this app. We have been made aware of a safeguarding concern involving this app, with pupils from Meadow High School being specifically targeted. This raises significant concerns about the potential risks associated with its use. If you are unsure how to check your child’s device or require additional support, please don’t hesitate to contact us at mrainsbury@meadowhighschool.org

SEND School Transport for Post 16s - Review
London Borough of Hillingdon are reviewing their policy around SEND school transport for post 16's.
Even if these changes don't impact your family now they may in the future so it is worth having a look.
.............................................................................................................................................
To those who are eligible they currently offer:
- free transport or
- a personal travel budget (PTB).
The proposal is:
- PTB as a default offer to support flexibility and promote independence
- in exceptional cases where a PTB is not suitable for parents of sixth form students and transport is arranged directly by Home to School Transport, a contribution towards the cost may be required. This fee will be a small part of the total cost and will be charged whenever transport is provided.
