Dear Families
Filming
On Friday 17th May we have a film crew coming in to create a video for prospective pupils and their families. This will be placed on our website.
We will be using our photo / video permissions that you have already completed to inform us about which pupils can be included in the video, either showing them engaged in learning, generally about the school or talking about their school experience. Should you wish to change your permission, please call the school office to ask for a new form.
We would love to include parents and carers in the video. Don't worry if you are camera shy! They also want some 'voice over' clips which they would gather from speaking with you and asking you questions about the school. Don't worry, language is not a barrier and the questions will be simple, and the answers need only be brief. If you would be willing to come in and chat about the school over coffee and cake at 2.45-3.30pm, please contact the school office and give them your details. Please note that you will not be able to park on the school site at this time.
Thank you in anticipation of your support!
Assembly
This week, on the 7th May, it was World Asthma Day. In assembly we learned about Asthma: what it is, what happens to someone's body during an Asthma attack; how to help someone having an Asthma attack; a reminder about how to use a spacer effectively to administer Asthma medication and some inspiring stories about top athletes who have Asthma.
Did you know that David Beckham has Asthma? Or that George Murray, a wheelchair athlete, had Asthma but went on to win the Boston marathon? Or that Paula Radcliffe, the winner of 8 international marathons, has asthma?
The assembly wanted to showcase to pupils that following medical advice to control their Asthma should prevent them from issues and allow them to participate in a full range of sport and exercise activities.

Promoting Literacy:
Harry Potter Day – on the 2nd May
Celebrating our love of Fantasy-Fiction
|
|
Harry Potter Day is celebrated around the world. We were delighted that it was on a ‘school day’ so that we could join in, making sure we included all of our fantasy-fiction favourites of course! Why the 2nd May? Other than it makes a very cool rhyme, it is because this is the day Harry Potter finally defeats Lord Voldemort in the Battle of Hogwarts.
Our library was a hub for fun all week. Students gathered to watch a film, play games and explore our huge selection of books in this genre including researching fun facts linked to the theme.

On Thursday, the school was transformed by the arrival of witches, wizards and even a dark Lord! Spells zinged along corridors – we were so impressed with how many our students knew and also their wand-making skills!
|
|
|
A huge ‘thank you’ to students, parents and staff who helped cast a magical spell over the school. We had a great time. So, until next time, ‘mischief managed’.

Thursday:Bloomsbury Football Inclusive Festival at QPR
Thanks to Bloomsbury Football, we were able to take 38 year 8-10 students to participate in a football festival on the official pitch of Queen's Park Rangers. Students were able to play mini matches between other SEN schools and take part in various activities. The event was well organised and run by some excellent coaches. Students all received a medal (providing a chance for QPR to see silverware being won since the 1966-67 season), book and a gift bag at the end of the session. Students behaviour was excellent and they participated brilliantly. A big thank you to the staff at Meadow who supported the trip, all at Bloomsbury’s football and QPR for hosting the event.

The focus of this tournament was to show key sporting skills; determination, team work, self belief and honesty. All participants showed a range of these skills on numerous occasions.
Well done to all students AND staff who participated. And a big thank you to the year 10 and 11 sports leaders who organised the whole event.

Safeguarding Briefing - May 2024
Who is this for?
This is briefing is for communities, schools, and families to alert and warn you about a medical procedure claiming to provide a cure for autism.
What is the concern?
A doctor from Bangladesh has run sessions in London for parents with children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These sessions wrongly claimed they can cure ASD with a new treatment. The treatment they are offering is an injection of a type of blood cells, called stem cells. This experimental treatment for Autism is unlicensed in UK, USA and other countries.
We have spoken to NHS colleagues including paediatricians and they strongly advise that families should NOT take up this treatment. There are real risks this could be harmful for children with ASD and there is no clear evidence that it will help them.
The doctor seems to be targeting Bangladeshi and other Asian families. The doctor is asking for £100 for an appointment, £8000 for the treatment and £350 for vitamins. He sometimes asks for this in American dollars.
This is both a medical and financial scam. We recommend that you DO NOT pay for, or agree to, this happening to your child.
Who can I talk to?
- Your social worker or early help worker
- Your GP or Paediatrician or NHS 111
- Your School
- The police on 101 or online at www.police.uk;
