Dear Families
On Tuesday 4th February it was World Cancer Awareness Day. In our whole school assembly we learned about how to monitor our health and complete health checks and what to do if we think something has changed or might be a health issue.
These were the symptoms we looked at:
- Aches and pains that don't go away, which might feel worse at night or after exercise
- Unexplained lumps, bruises and swellings (which may or may not be painful)
- Reduced movement, numbing, tingling or weakness
- A new, strange-looking mole, a dark area of skin that was not there before, or a change in a mole or freckle you already have
- Finding it difficult to pee, or to control when you need to pee (wetting yourself), or peeing more often than usual
- Blood in your pee or poo
- Headaches
- Tiredness
- Unexplained weight loss or loss of appetite
- Sickness and vomiting
- Confusion, or changes in behaviour, thinking or personality
- Slow growth or development
We learned that these symptoms can be the result of any number of things, from forgotten bumps and bangs to too long on screens and devices or even simply being a teenager!
In all cases, the answer to 'what should you do' was 'speak to an adult'. If a pupil should come to a member of the school team regarding any of the above, we will make contact with you so that you are able to assess whether your child should be seen by a medical professional. For parents of pupils who are over 16, you might consider starting to support your child to make their own medical appointments to help them learn this important life skill.
The 'take-aways' from the assembly were:
- Be aware of your own body
- If you have noticed one of the symptoms above, talk to an adult
- Don't worry without communicating. Most things turn out to be simple health matters.
- If it is something that requires medical treatment, the sooner you get help, the better the outcome.
Very best wishes for a happy and healthy weekend.
Kind regards
Mrs J Rigby

Flair Survey
This week, all staff and students were invited to complete the Flair Anti-Racism survey. This is the last year of a 3-year cycle, and we are hoping to see an improvement in the way students engage with topics related to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion as well as see an improvement in both student and staff education. Once the results are in, the school will create an action plan for the year. All results will be shared with parents and carers.

Pathway 1 Donation
We have been very lucky in Pathway 1 to have received a donation from a parent's workplace, which has helped us be able to buy an Omi Mobii Projection system. Pupils have enjoyed using it for many purposes, including learning, sensory, social skills and coordination. Local libraries such as Oakwood, Uxbridge, Ruislip Manor and Northwood Hills have similar systems which can be booked out for use, which could be a nice way to spend an afternoon as a family.

It's that time of year again!!
Maths week will run from Monday 10th February - Friday 14th February.
During Maths Week, pupils will be set a special maths task to complete in their maths lessons. This year, we are asking pupils to participate in the ‘Meadow Maths Challenge', where all maths groups will attempt to answer 20 questions related to our school.
The class will estimate their answers together, and the results will be marked within a reasonable range of the correct answer. The class with the highest score will win a prize for everyone in the group! There will be prizes for the following;
- Pathway 1: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place
- Pathway 2: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place
**Winners will be announced in assembly the week after half term.**
In addition to the challenge, pupils will complete a variety of tasks throughout the week focusing on the theme of 'estimation.'
Good luck to all Maths classes!
May the best class win and have fun with the challenge!
Kind regards
