Dear Families
Today has been a very fun day with a lot happening in school.
As you know, it's Comic Relief Day, and we invited pupils and staff to dig deep into wardrobes and bring out their 80's gear! If you follow us on instagram, you will see some of the amazing outfits.
Every 21st March is also the World Down Syndrome Awareness Day, and we have learned about this year's focus, which is #ImproveOurSupportSystems in this week's assembly. If you would like to learn more, here is a link to the fantastic video we watched in assembly:
https://www.worlddownsyndromeday.org/about-wdsd
Some key messages we explored are:
- Everyone needs support sometimes.
- People with Down syndrome need support to live and be included in the community, like everyone else.
- Families also need support, as they are often supporting their family member.
- Support is a key human right that helps make other rights possible.
- The support that we need is different for each person.
- We have the right to support that meets our needs and gives us choice, control and dignity.
We invited pupils to wear odd socks to school today and I look forward to sharing some photos with you of the amazing array that were on display!
Best wishes for a lovely weekend. enjoy the sunshine!

Scholastic Book Fair:
We were excited to run a Scholastic Book Fair to help us get ready for World Book Day and Careers Week. We enjoyed hosting families visiting to browse through the book selection on offer, and it was also an opportunity for parents to meet up, look around the library and talk to our librarian.
All classes benefitted from the Book Fair as we were able to find some amazing new resources, selected just for them, to add to their class reading library.
Thanks to your generosity, we now have more reward points to spend on books for our library and to encourage reading in school.

 WORLD BOOK DAY Week 3rd – 7th March 2025
Celebrating Reading and National Careers Week
Exploring ways to Staying Fit for Life
This year we were able to partner with the PE Faculty to think about the positive benefits of finding ways to stay fit for life in terms of physical and emotional well-being.
The students had a really interesting week, taking part in a range of workshops linked to life beyond Meadow, including visits from BUILD, The Clancy Group and HS2. In addition, our Year 11s and 6th Form attended a fantastic new job fair that was held at Brentford Football Club.
Other events in the week included reading sessions in the library every day from staff and our wonderful WEX Librarians.
We also ran a lunchtime film club to share our favourite sports themed stories.
On World Book Day, students came to school dressed to fit the theme and we held a special assembly where we started our whole school team challenge – How far could we row? Students also took part in a quiz to find out about the hidden sporting talents of school staff and were given the World Book Day book they had ordered.
To end the week, on Friday we all got outside into the fresh Spring air for a fun fitness challenge on six giant inflatables.
The My Sporting Heroes competition closing date is Monday 24th March 2025, so there is still time! Winners will be able to visit our library, talk to Miss Gaafar and order a new book of their choice to take home with them.
We hope that the students all had a great time, and we can’t wait to start planning for next year!

Year 8
Visit to Cotswold Wildlife Park
On Thursday, March 18th, Year 8 visited Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens. During our visit, we had the opportunity to see a variety of animals, including lions, camels, rhinos, and even pet some friendly goats.
One of the keepers gave us an insightful talk about the animals' habitats and how they adapt to their surroundings.
Afterward, we enjoyed a sunny lunch in the gardens before heading back to school on the coach.

Dear Parent / Guardian,
RE: Edible Drugs
Hillingdon Police are aware of the concerns raised around Edible Drugs. We would like to take this opportunity to bring this to your attention, as you may be aware, cannabis can be mixed into cakes (hash brownies), tea, yoghurt or sweets (gummies/lollipops). The amount of cannabis in these products can vary greatly and sometimes other harmful drugs are added too.
The effects of consuming edibles are unpredictable and it can be very easy to accidentally take a larger dose. Edibles take between 1-3 hours to have an effect because food is absorbed into the bloodstream through the liver. Because it takes longer, the user may end up consuming larger amounts of the drug while thinking the drug isn't working. Overdosing with Edibles can be a greater risk because of this!
We ask that you please have conversations with young people about edibles and the risks involved, who they can talk with if they have any concerns, such as family, teachers police or they can report anonymously on www.fearless.org
Please monitor food packaging/ wrappers at home that your young people may have. Often Edibles packaging looks like sweet wrappers, but you will find wording such as CBD or THC suggesting the items are cannabis oil infused.
Please be mindful of the medical needs should your child present with such symptoms, or if it becomes apparent they have consumed a drug laced substance.
If you are made aware of any social media accounts advertising these items, we ask you report this information to the police, school or Crime Stoppers so work can be done around these accounts due to the dangers Edibles present.
We have attached links to Frank which gives more information and laws surrounding Edibles:

Kind regards,
Hillingdon Police.
